Our Approach

We care deeply about each student and desire to help them develop as a whole person, in academics as well as physically, emotionally, socially, and – most importantly – spiritually. Our curriculum meets Ontario Ministry standards and is rooted in a transformative Christian worldview, enabling students to view life through the truth of the Bible in a way that shapes how they think, live, and act—bringing meaningful change to both their character and the world around them.

Teaching for Transformation

This framework helps teachers design learning experiences that connect faith, learning, and life in meaningful ways. Each teacher is driven by a “deep hope”—a vision for the kind of people students are becoming—and seeks to nurture that through everyday learning. The goal is for students to see their place in God’s story and live it out through what they learn.

A Growth Mindset

Students are taught that abilities and intelligence can grow through effort, practice, and learning. They begin to understand challenges as opportunities, persist through setbacks, and learn from mistakes. A growth mindset builds resilience, motivation, and a willingness to try new things, helping students stay engaged, take risks, and achieve deeper understanding and growth.

Responsive Classroom

This approach blends academic and social-emotional learning to create a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom community. It emphasizes routines, positive language, and student collaboration to build belonging and responsibility, helping students develop self-regulation, empathy, and stronger academic skills.

Project-Based Learning

This teaching method is an inquiry-driven approach where students learn by actively working on meaningful, real-world projects over an extended period of time for an authentic audience. Instead of focusing only on content delivery, students investigate questions, solve problems, and create products that demonstrate their understanding.

Teachers act as facilitators, guiding inquiry, collaboration, and reflection. This approach helps students develop deeper content knowledge as well as critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills.

The Science of Reading

This approach is a research-based way of teaching children to read that focuses on how the brain actually learns. It teaches students how sounds connect to letters, how to blend those sounds into words, and how to understand what they read. Skills like sounding out words, reading smoothly, and building vocabulary are taught clearly and step by step. This helps students become confident readers by giving them the tools they need to both read words and understand their meaning.

Graduate Profile

It is our hope that DCS students grow and deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ, nurturing Christ-like attributes in their daily walk with Him. These students are on a journey of faith that will last a lifetime and it is our goal to help them grow in these key characteristics: faith, humility, compassion, wisdom, perseverance, forgiveness, and gratitude.

It is our prayer that the seeds of faith planted in each student through learning opportunities at Dunnville Christian School will grow deep roots in the Word of God and flourish throughout each student’s life through loving God and others.
