History

THe BEGINNING

The Dunnville Christian School Society began in 1958 with the intent to provide Christian education locally. Although the actual school doors did not open until September of 1971, the Society conducted meetings with the hope that one day, their school would be organized. Mr. Klaas Mulder was the president of the Society at the time. He and his wife did not even have children. He passed away just weeks before the school opened.

Funds were collected and set aside for future purchases in regards to property, building, etc. In September of 1971, the doors of Dunnville Parental Christian School opened for the first time and welcomed 47 students for the first time.

In 1976, a new building was erected on property purchased from Mr. Richard & Mrs. Ann Hoekstra. A total of 95 students were enrolled at that time. Dunnville Christian School was incorporated in 1984 and the 1983-1984 school year had the first ever Kindergarten class, taught by Mrs. Bettie Vreugdenhil.

GROWTH & Struggle

In 1986, the membership voted to proceed with an addition to the school of two new classrooms, a kitchen, a gymnasium with two adjoining change rooms, office space, and a caretaker’s room. There were 57 families and 118 students that school year.

After peaking with 194 students in 1993, DCS struggled with a continued decline in enrollment to 91 students in 2008. This led to the inception of the Pillars of Support model to ensure a sustainable future for Dunnville Christian School.

BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING

Enrollment numbers increased steadily after this and, in 2012, the flat roof was replaced with the steel roof you see today, as well as the stone shelf and pillars on the front entrance. At that time, there were 65 families and 127 students enrolled at DCS.

By the grace of God, DCS has continued to thrive, adding a much needed addition in 2022 with additional classrooms, storage and revamped library and staff lounge spaces. 221 students from 101 families were in attendance at that time.

The next year, in 2023, a portable unit of 4 classrooms was also added for 242 students from 109 families! Currently, as DCS has hit a record enrollment of 270 students and 124 families in 2025, we are blessed beyond measure and working harder than ever to fulfill our vision and mission.

To date, over 1,000  students have attended Dunnville Christian School! It is our prayer that they continue to bless others, bringing the light of Christ wherever they go.
